New Order In East Africa

The Oromo Nation and Renaissance of True Ethiopia

The book is an expanded adaptation from an extensive independent study titled Exploration of Socio-political History of the Oromo Nation of East Africa and Prognosis of its Future Perspectives. The study opposed the conventional Abyssinia-centered Ethiopian history and a partial departure from the academic tradition of Ethiopian Studies and Oromo Studies. It was a case study conducted in an advocacy worldview and an atheoretical framework. It employed the historical parallel and the centre-periphery approaches as objects of the study. The book narrates the socio-political history of the Oromo nation in the Horn of Africa. It accentuates the pressing problems of the Oromo in modern Ethiopia and identifies the loss of the socio-political center as an urgent problem. It sets a new grand narrative and a unifying vision for the Oromo nation and advocates for its peaceful and democratic rise to the socio-political center in modern Ethiopia and East Africa. It envisions Kushite Ethiopia and Kushite Ethiopian nationalism as the future of modern Ethiopia and East Africa.

The Ethiopian Federation

Formation, Features, and Challenges

This book results from an independent study to explain the Ethiopian Federation: its making, features, and theoretical and practical challenges. The constitutional pact theory of federalism guided the study. The analysis followed the political and ideological approach to the study of federalism. The constitutional recognition of national diversity, where not only all the nations, nationalities, and peoples of the federation have the right to self-determination but also all are equal, and each is sovereign, was the animating element throughout the study. The book recounts the international and local backgrounds of national self-determination and the political dynamism during the formation of the federation. It explains the conceptual underpinnings of the federalization process and defines Ethiopian federalism with a new recognition theory of federalism that it suggests. It articulates the features of the federation in detail. Also, it analyzes the conceptual and practical challenges of the federation. It is written with reserved judgments to allow general-purpose readers and students of federalism to understand the dissertation well. The work could be a contribution to the study of federalism.

The Making of Modern Ethiopia

A Synopsis

The book is a synopsis of the lengthy process of the making of modern Ethiopia. It briefly covers the duration from the pre-Aksumite period to the present Ethiopian Federation. It is not a history in the conventional sense. Some could find it controversial. The book focuses on the transformation of the Kingdom of Abyssinia to modern Ethiopia. It is primarily an account of how Emperor Menelik II built modern Ethiopia in the second half of the 19th century. It is an illustration of the multinational nature of modern Ethiopia. Anyone interested in Ethiopia's controversial history and its present socio-political dynamics would find the book informative, thought-provoking, and a valuable resource for understanding modern Ethiopia.
